An Astros fan named Jared Whalen was relocated after pulling a baseball from Mike Trout's glove during a foul ball incident at a game. This action reminded many of a similar event in the 2024 World Series. Whalen claimed he was merely trying to protect his son from the ball, unaware of the consequences of his actions. Meanwhile, the umpires ruled the contact was not interference since it started out of play, leading to discussions with the team manager regarding the call. Whalen left with the ball but faced repercussions for his actions, as fans showed discontent.
I was more looking at the ball coming for my son's face, Whalen said. I made sure I wasn't in the field of play. I apologized, and (Trout) nodded his head and we're good, I think.
The play came in the second inning Saturday, when Yainer Diaz skied a foul popup down the right-field line. Trout reached over the padding with the ball seemingly secured in his glove.
