"The Los Angeles Dodgers made headlines on Tuesday after signing top free agent closer Edwin Diaz to a record-setting three-year, $69 million contract, filling a major hole in their roster."
"We'll never shut the door on Kiké. The value he provides on the field with his versatility, the value he provides in the clubhouse. He's got to do what's best, but we'll see how that plays out."
"He made a game-saving double play in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 6 of the World Series to keep the Dodgers' hopes of winning consecutive titles alive."
The Los Angeles Dodgers signed closer Edwin Díaz to a three-year, $69 million contract to address a major bullpen need. Manager Dave Roberts had indicated he did not expect any "big splash" moves before the Díaz signing, but the front office remains open to additional roster changes. Outfield reinforcements remain a positional need. Re-signing veteran utilityman Kiké Hernández is a realistic option given his versatility and clubhouse presence. Hernández hit .203 with 10 home runs in the regular season after an elbow injury, improved to .250 with one home run and seven RBI in the postseason, and delivered a game-saving double play in Game 6 of the World Series.
