Following an investigation by ESPN that unveiled his illegal activities involving wire transfers to a bookmaker, the Dodgers terminated his contract in March 2024. Mizuhara pleaded guilty to bank fraud and false tax filing, admitting to substantial gambling debts. His associate, Mathew Bowyer, has also confessed to running an illegal gambling operation and faces sentencing. Mizuhara is anticipated to be deported after his prison term ends.
