How UCLA women's basketball stars pulled off a halftime dance team cameo
"Lauren and I have been wanting to take a dance class in L.A. for a long time. We both grew up dancing, and we love to dance in the locker room and stuff. But this wasn't just like a TikTok dance, it was the real thing. So when Charlisse came up with this idea, we were all in."
"We only had one day to officially practice before our performance. So we were practicing in the mirror and just preparing any chance we could get."
"This team is all about fun. And this is the type of fun that we like to have. We genuinely love doing things like this together."
UCLA women's basketball players Charlisse Leger-Walker, Gabriela Jaquez, and Lauren Betts challenged the UCLA dance team to teach them a complete halftime routine in 24 hours through a YouTube video. Leger-Walker promised to perform if the video received 1,000 likes; it garnered over 10,000 views instead. The three players, who grew up dancing and enjoy dancing in the locker room, learned the routine in one day before their performance at Pauley Pavilion during the UCLA men's basketball game against Nebraska. They replaced their basketball gear with dance-inspired outfits and performed alongside the Spirit Squad, demonstrating the team's emphasis on fun and camaraderie before heading to the Big Ten Championships.
