Paul Magnier won the bunch sprint at the end of stage 18, completing a hat-trick of victories. The Soudal Quick-Step rider, aged 22, was set up by teammate Jasper Stuyven in the final high-speed turns and then powered to the finish ahead of two Italian sprinters. Edoardo Zambanini finished second, with Jonatham Milan third. Magnier’s stage wins also include the first and third stages in Bulgaria, and his Giro stage victory gives him the lead in the points classification. Jonas Vingegaard attacked on the short, sharp final climb within the last 10 kilometers but stayed with the main bunch to protect his overall lead.
