Juventus captain says UCL exit left Juventus on verge of tears
"It almost makes me want to cry for how much we believed. I think we gave our heart -- and more. These are the kinds of matches that stay with you."
"It's frustrating because we reached extra time a bit drained. We had really put the game back on track, but I'll say it again -- we let it slip in the first leg. A tie like this simply can't end that way."
Juventus faced Galatasaray in a Champions League round of 16 second leg, trailing 5-2 from the first match. Despite playing most of the second half with 10 men after Lloyd Kelly's red card, Juventus scored three goals to force extra time. Weston McKennie equalized the aggregate tie, but Galatasaray scored twice in extra time to win 7-5 overall. Juventus players expressed frustration, believing they threw away the tie in the first leg. The elimination leaves only one Italian team, Atalanta, in the Champions League round of 16. Juventus currently sits fifth in Serie A, four points behind the final Champions League qualification spot.
