Al-Ahli celebrated their first AFC Champions League title with a 2-0 victory over Kawasaki Frontale in a final held at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Goals from Galeno and Franck Kessie secured the win, complemented by an impressive performance from goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. The team, alongside other Saudi clubs, has now become Asian champions. Mendy expressed pride in winning at home, while Kawasaki’s coach attributed the loss to simple errors, reflecting on the team's missed opportunities to capitalize during the match.
"We are so proud," Mendy said. "Once we knew the final eight would be played in Jeddah, it was our goal to be champions in front of our fans. Since I came here 18 months ago, they have supported us so much."
Kawasaki coach Shigetoshi Hasebe reflected, "For us, if we could play as we planned, we could have won. We showed that in the last two games, but tonight it didn't work so we have to do more in the future."
