Casey Jarvis wins South African Open, gets spot in Masters, Open
"I just had a slight feeling at the start of the week that something crazy was going to happen. It's my dream as a kid to play at Augusta. I thought about it in the morning -- it's hard not to think about it. I cannot wait to go there and see how my game compares with the best players in the world."
"Starting the final round with a one-shot lead, Jarvis holed a 40-foot birdie putt on the opening hole, hit his approach to 2 feet for birdie on No. 4 and made a third birdie on the par-5 fifth. He finished with six straight pars for a 14-under 266."
"For the first time, the Masters offered an invitation to the winner of the South African Open. Golf's third-oldest national championship also provided three spots to the leading players not already eligible for the Open Championship in July at Royal Birkdale."
Casey Jarvis captured the South African Open at Stellenbosch Golf Club with a 3-under 67, finishing at 14-under 266 for a three-shot victory. He made three birdies in his opening five holes, including a 40-foot putt on the first hole and an approach shot to 2 feet on the fourth. This win marks his second consecutive DP World Tour victory following his Kenya Open triumph. The victory earned Jarvis his first Masters invitation and a spot in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Francesco Laporta, Frederic LaCroix, and Hennie Du Plessis tied for second place, with Laporta and LaCroix securing Open Championship spots based on world rankings. Jarvis moves into the top 100 world rankings for the first time and may receive a PGA Championship invitation.
