Ilya Angelov, also known as 'Milan' and 'Okart', has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for his involvement in a botnet that facilitated ransomware attacks. His cybercrime group, tracked by the FBI as Mario Kart, built a botnet from 2017 to 2021 by distributing malware through spam emails. The group earned $14 million in ransom payments from over 70 US corporations. In addition to his prison sentence, Angelov was fined $100,000 and faces a $1.6 million money judgment for his criminal activities.
