A married father in his 60s from Munster paid €1,200 to a woman calling herself Ms Penelope after meeting her online, believing she would be his 'mistress' and allow him to be her 'slave'. He also transferred €400 to a second woman whom he believed was collaborating with Ms Penelope, making total losses of €1,600. He asked to remain unnamed. The scammers have since threatened to send images of their chats to his family and to workplaces, including his wife's workplace, as a form of blackmail. The man reported feeling vulnerable and embarrassed by the ordeal.
