Can't upgrade your Windows 10 PC? You have 5 options - and 3 weeks to act
"Have you decided what to do with your old Windows 10 PCs when they reach their official end-of-support date in three weeks? Microsoft is not going to back down at the last minute and extend that deadline. The hardware requirements aren't going to change, either. So, if you have a laptop or desktop PC that doesn't pass the compatibility checks, Microsoft will block you from upgrading through Windows Update, and they will encourage you to buy a new PC instead."
"Do you remember the official support document that I quoted earlier? The one that says there will be "no new security updates" after Windows 10 reaches its end-of-support date? That's not exactly true. Microsoft will indeed continue developing security updates for Windows 10, but they won't be free for everyone. Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for Windows 10 will be available on a subscription basis for up to three years."
Windows 10 support ends on Oct. 14, 2025. Microsoft will not extend the deadline or change hardware requirements, and devices that fail Windows 11 compatibility checks will be blocked from upgrading through Windows Update and steered toward new PCs. Several alternatives exist, including a late-June announcement that provides an extra year of security updates at no cost for some devices. Extended Security Updates (ESUs) will also be offered on a paid subscription basis for up to three years. Users responsible for incompatible machines have five options and should act before the deadline. Help may be needed for friends and family with older but functional PCs.
