Cisco's latest Cybersecurity Readiness Index reveals that businesses globally are inadequately prepared for cyber threats. The study categorizes companies' cyber readiness into four tiers: Mature, Progressive, Formative, and Beginner, based on five key pillars: Identity Intelligence, Machine Trustworthiness, Network Resilience, Cloud Reinforcement, and AI Fortification. The survey of 8,000 leaders showed only minor increases in the mature category, while many industries, notably healthcare and wholesaling, scored low on readiness. The rising risks involving AI technologies have also emerged as a concerning blind spot for companies, highlighting the urgent need for improved cybersecurity measures.
AI threats are "a blind spot for many companies", the report's authors claim, despite an increase in would-be hackers targeting AI systems through methods such as data poisoning.
The report indicates that despite cloud computing and networking being mature technologies, their cybersecurity readiness remains low at only 4% and 7%, respectively.
Of the five areas identified as critical for cyber readiness, machine trustworthiness achieved the highest maturity rating at 12%, indicating a significant level of confidence in this pillar.
Cisco's survey revealed that while the progressive category of cybersecurity readiness remained static at 26%, there has been a slight increase in both the mature and progressive categories.
