Chet Hanks, a 35-year-old musician and actor, found himself stranded in Medellín, Colombia after spontaneously visiting a friend while celebrating another friend's birthday in Puerto Rico. Holding dual citizenship through his parents' naturalization in Greece in 2020, Hanks traveled with only his Greek passport because his U.S. passport was nearly expired. Upon attempting to return to the United States, airport officials informed him he needed a green card to enter his home country using a foreign passport, despite being an American citizen. The nearest U.S. embassy to resolve the situation is located in Bogotá, approximately 250 miles away. Hanks expressed frustration on Instagram about his predicament, acknowledging there were worse places to be stranded.
