Warner Bros. has announced a 70mm IMAX re-release of Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller, Sinners, in response to audience demand. This re-release will happen from May 15 to May 21 at select locations worldwide. Warner Bros. President Jeff Goldstein acknowledged the overwhelming interest from viewers, stating that the aim is to let both new and returning audiences enjoy the film in this premium format. Originally, Sinners was scheduled to leave IMAX to accommodate the Marvel film, Thunderbolts. Despite the re-release, viewers can also enjoy it in standard definition if they can't access IMAX screenings.
"Audiences have spoken and we listened," said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. president of global distribution in a statement to Variety. "We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see it - or see it again - in 70mm IMAX."
The re-release of Sinners in 70mm IMAX will begin May 15th and run through May 21st.
The movie was set to leave IMAX screens to make room for Marvel's Thunderbolts. On social media, theatergoers posted about going to see Sinners in IMAX on off hours only to find packed or very nearly packed showings.
The extended IMAX screenings are a response to audience demand, reflecting a shift in moviegoer preferences for premium viewing experiences.
