Mel Gibson's Resurrection of the Christ Reveals First Look at Its New Jesus
Production has been completed on The Resurrection of the Christ, a follow-up to The Passion of the Christ. The release schedule has shifted, with Part 1 planned for May 6, 2027 and Part 2 scheduled to premiere on May 25, 2028. Mel Gibson described the project as a major life mission that has demanded everything from him as a filmmaker and artist, focused on telling what he considers the most important story in human history. Jaakko Ohtonen stars as Jesus. Gibson recast Jim Caviezel and avoided de-aging CGI, and a first look at the new Jesus is available from a distance.
"This film represents a major part of my life's work, and it has demanded everything of me as a filmmaker and as an artist. This is far more than a film to me. It's a mission I've carried for over 20 years to tell what I believe is the most important story in human history."
"Mel Gibson, after less successful efforts like the movie Flight Risk, has completed production on The Resurrection of the Christ, his follow-up to The Passion of the Christ. The release dates for the two-part Bible tale have also shifted, with Part 1 now set to be released on May 6th, 2027 and Part 2 due to premiere May 25, 2028."
"The Resurrection of the Christ stars Jaakko Ohtonen as Jesus, after Gibson decided to recast Jim Caviezel and save on de-aging CGI. Above, check out a first look at the new Christ - albeit from a distance."
