The Independent Film Festival made a vibrant return to Ashland in late April, showcasing a variety of indie films at the Varsity Theatre. A highlight was the Oregon premiere of 'I Know Catherine, The Log Lady', which celebrated the legacy of Catherine E. Coulson and sold out all its showings. Additionally, Chris Lucas's film 'Raising Aniya' received strong acclaim, culminating in him winning the Lee Fuchsmann Local Filmmaker Award, marking an emotional connection to the community. The festival's growth drew more filmmakers, igniting excitement among audiences and local press.
"It was one of the hits of the festival," said Gary Kout, AIFF board president. "It was the first film to sell out, ultimately selling out all four showings."
"Being able to screen the film and giving Chris Lucas the Lee Fuchsmann Local Filmmaker Award was an emotional highlight of the festival," Kout said. "Chris is a beloved member of the AIFF community, having served on the board in the past."
"We originally had planned to host just three filmmakers," Gullixson said, "but as word spread, more reached out, eager to attend. That ripple effect sparked a beautiful momentum."
"It was a beautiful full-circle moment that no one will forget," Kout said.
