Roddie Edmonds, an Army sergeant who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, was captured by Nazi forces along with his 1,200-man unit. While imprisoned, a Nazi SS officer ordered all Jewish American soldiers to separate from other prisoners, threatening immediate execution for disobedience. Edmonds devised a plan with his team to have all 1,200 soldiers present together at roll call the next morning. When confronted by an enraged Nazi commandant who pressed a pistol to his head, Edmonds fearlessly declared, "We are all Jews here." This act of courage and defiance saved over 200 Jewish troops from certain death. The camp was liberated two months later. President Trump awarded Edmonds the Medal of Honor posthumously during a White House ceremony.
