"This young boy realized he had found something interesting and he wanted to know more about it. My colleague looked at it and said 'oh, this is quite interesting!'"
"For Berlin it's the first find from Greek antiquity; although there are some other finds in Germany from this period, they are very rare."
"Trade networks between northern Europe and the ancient Romans are well documented, but little is known about connections between ancient Greeks and Germanic tribes in the Iron Age."
A 13-year-old found a bronze coin from ancient Troy while walking in Spandau, Berlin. Experts dated the coin to 2,300 years ago. Archaeologist Jens Henker noted the significance of the find, as it is the first item from ancient Greece discovered in Berlin. The coin features the goddess Athena on both sides. While trade networks between northern Europe and the Romans are well-documented, connections between ancient Greeks and Germanic tribes remain largely unknown, making this discovery particularly important for understanding historical interactions.
