Rare book by friend of legendary poet comes home after 200 years
Briefly

A rare 1807 edition of Hyman Hurwitz's "Elements of the Hebrew Language" has been returned to north London, thanks to local historians Michael Hammerson and Peter Walton. Hurwitz established the Jewish Academy in South Grove, Highgate, and collaborated with poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The book, dedicated to the founders of the Jewish Academy, highlights Hurwitz's significant role in promoting Hebrew education in England during a time of community growth. His pioneering efforts included founding a Jewish school that served boys and girls, showcasing his dedication to education and cultural heritage.
While surfing internet book dealers for Highgate material I got a hit from a bookseller in Jerusalem who had a rare 1807 edition of Elements of the Hebrew Language.
Hyman Hurwitz not only set up the second Jewish school in the country in South Grove, but was a friend of and collaborator with his neighbour Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
