The J. Paul Getty Museum has been bolstered by a major donation of 38 Italian illuminated manuscript leaves from T. Robert Burke and Katherine States Burke, enriching its medieval and Renaissance collections. These works, spanning the 12th to the 17th centuries, primarily originate from Christian choir books and showcase vibrant religious imagery. They include contributions from notable artists like Lorenzo Monaco and Giovanni di Paolo. This collection is deemed the most important of its kind in the U.S., nearly doubling the Getty's representation of Italian manuscript leaves and elevating its artistic reputation.
