"The long-term goal of the Bolsheviks, who took power by force in Russia in November 1917, was a fairer society where workers and peasants were not exploited by wealthy capitalists. The more immediate consequences, though, of the Bolshevik Revolution were the replacement of the Provisional Government by a highly centralised one-party state, the nationalisation of industries, the radical redistribution of land to the peasantry,"
"The effects of the Bolshevik Revolution of 7 November 1917 (old calendar 25 October) included: The Bolshevik seizure of power by force The fall of the Provisional Government The creation of the Workers' and Peasants' Government headed by Vladimir Lenin The election of a Constituent Assembly, which was then dissolved by Lenin The formation of Soviet Russia"
Bolsheviks seized power by force in November 1917 and replaced the Provisional Government with a centralised, one-party Soviet state. They nationalised major industries and redistributed land to peasants. The government abolished traditional ranks, titles, and symbols of the old regime and signed an armistice with Germany, withdrawing Russia from World War I. The Romanov family was murdered. A civil war followed, lasting about five years, during which opposition was ruthlessly suppressed. Vladimir Lenin led the consolidation of power and oversaw the creation of the USSR in 1922, ending the early turmoil of Soviet Russia.
