Caratacus was a Briton tribal leader who resisted the Roman invasion of Britannia in the 1st century CE. He ruled the Catuvellauni kingdom with his brother Togodumnus. After the Romans captured Camulodunum and killed Togodumnus, Caratacus continued to fight among the Silures in Wales. Despite initial victories, he faced a decisive defeat in 50 CE and was betrayed. Taken to Rome, his dignified address impressed Emperor Claudius, who allowed him to live in Italy. Caratacus became an enduring symbol of British patriotism.
