As arms race in Asia intensifies, a-bomb survivors make final plea for peace
""Did you know that a nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima? Yes, kids like you were all burned to death, because houses caught fire and collapsed, trapping people underneath...""
""As a kid from Hiroshima, learning about this past tragedy makes me want to tell other people about it. It could lead to a better future...""
Elementary school students in Hiroshima met atomic bomb survivor Toshiyuki Mimaki, who emphasized the severe consequences of the 1945 bombing. Mimaki, a vice-chair of Nihon Hidankyo, shared harrowing experiences from that day when around 140,000 people died by year-end. He recounted his own survival at age 3 and reflected on the importance of food amid current global conflicts. Students expressed a strong desire to spread awareness about the tragedy to foster a better future and prevent similar occurrences.
