Almost 200,000 new historical records released to mark 103rd anniversary of Four Courts fire
Briefly

In honor of the 103rd anniversary of the 1922 fire that devastated the Public Record Office of Ireland, 175,000 historical records have been released, providing access to over 60,000 names from the 19th-century census. This effort, led by Trinity College Dublin through the VRTI project, encompasses various historical records, including intelligence reports and documents related to the 1798 Rebellion and Irish-American connections. The release highlights the collaborative effort in uncovering Irish history, with Dr. Peter Crooks emphasizing its significance for researchers and the academic community.
The scale, scope, and significance of these materials is remarkable, containing thousands of names of individuals before and after the Great Famine.
We are excited to release our latest collections freely online for citizen researchers, students, and the academic community, highlighting Ireland's story as a global island.
