"As I get older, I guess I'm prouder that I could go and serve my country, and I did the best I could."
"Do I remember being shot? Oh yeah. It hit me like a rock. I was dazed and started walking back until I fell."
"God is good to me. He helped me out during the war."
"I eat good, sleep good, and I have peace in my heart. I have everything - freedom - all in all God has been with me."
David Loredo was drafted at 18 in 1943 and served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was deployed to the Philippines and was wounded in March 1945. He recalls being shot, feeling dazed, and falling while trying to return. He leaned on the faith his parents taught him during his recovery. He received both the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for heroism and sacrifice. At 100 years old he wears his uniform with pride, lives with his wife Martha, and enjoys a large multi-generational family. He credits good food, rest, peace in his heart, freedom, and faith for his longevity.
