The University of California enrolled a record 301,000 students in fall 2025, a year-over-year increase of 1,686. More than 200,000 were California resident undergraduates, up 1,796. First-year California undergraduates totaled 42,232, about 80% of 52,611 first-year students, an increase of 264. New female undergraduates outnumbered males 28,301 to 22,747. First-year enrollment rose for Latino, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, Asian American, and white students, while first-year Black and Native American enrollments dipped slightly to 2,471 and 319 respectively. The system continues amid federal funding cuts, state budget constraints, and political scrutiny.
