A survey found that university students are frequent AI users and more pessimistic about AI’s economic effects than workers and the general public. One in three university students believe AI will wipe out jobs so quickly that it could lead to civil unrest. More than half expect job losses to be worse than in a normal recession. The survey compared university students, young people aged 16 to 29, employers, and the public across the UK. While many students fear job impacts, male students show more positive views about AI’s benefits for humanity and thinking ability. Students also report common AI problems, including factual errors and made-up sources, and fewer than half usually check AI output before using it.
