"Texas A&M offered a bachelor of arts degree, a bachelor of science degree, an undergraduate minor and a graduate certificate in women's and gender studies. The program has 25 students seeking a major and 31 seeking a minor. Students already enrolled will be allowed to complete their programs over the next six semesters, but no new students will be accepted."
Texas A&M University is eliminating its women's and gender studies degree program because of low enrollment and cost. The decision followed a campus-wide course review launched after a viral video of a student confronting a professor over gender identity content. Administrators cited stewardship of public funds and ongoing investment needs. The program offered BA and BS degrees, an undergraduate minor, and a graduate certificate, with 25 majors and 31 minors; current students may finish over the next six semesters, and no new students will be admitted. The interdisciplinary program lacked tenure-line faculty and relied on instructors from other departments. Faculty described it as a cross-disciplinary space that fostered collaboration.
