"Approval requires schools to submit medical documentation provided by a treating physician at the time of a student's incapacitating injury or illness, which was not provided,"
"The documents provided by Ole Miss and the student's prior school include a physician's note from a December 2022 visit, which stated the student-athlete was "doing very well" since he was seen in August 2022,"
Trinidad Chambliss was denied a sixth-year waiver by the NCAA due to a lack of contemporaneous medical documentation from a treating physician. Ole Miss previously filed the waiver on Nov. 16 and plans to appeal after an earlier verbal denial in December. Chambliss had persistent respiratory issues during his sophomore season at Division II Ferris State, which formed the basis of the waiver request. He transferred to Ole Miss, finished eighth in Heisman voting, threw 22 touchdowns, and starred in the Sugar Bowl win over Georgia. The denial likely ends his collegiate career and shifts him toward a Day 3 NFL draft projection.
