""We're bringing together two really significant and very diverse institutions, and it's a big-scale operation, so we'll be able to look at a lot of things across a lot of different environments," said Mindy Tarlow, senior fellow and professor at NYU's Marron Institute of Urban Management, where the lab will initially be housed."
""This is a research partnership," said Elise Cappella, vice provost for universitywide initiatives at NYU."
NYU and SUNY launched the Higher Education Design Lab to evaluate which higher education programs most effectively prepare students for a workforce reshaped by AI and other technological and cultural changes. The lab will study new and established initiatives on both university systems' campuses, starting with programs that teach civic engagement, career readiness, first-year programming and innovation to understand their impact on student learning. The lab will be housed initially at NYU's Marron Institute of Urban Management. Student surveys show about 40 percent of undergraduates want better connection between classroom lessons and careers, and nearly 50 percent want training on ethical AI use.
