"Expanding opportunities for collaboration accelerates scientific progress."
"This new institute will strengthen relationships among researchers within our community and across institutions who are working to deepen our understanding of the universe. We eagerly anticipate their discoveries, and we are grateful to Larry Leinweber and the Leinweber Foundation for their support of fundamental research."
Harvard created the Leinweber Institute for Theoretical Physics supported by a $20 million gift from the Leinweber Foundation, housed in the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences' Division of Science. The institute will unite researchers across Harvard and partner institutions to explore theoretical principles of the physical world. Harvard joins a national network of Leinweber-supported theoretical physics centers representing more than $150 million in total investment. The institute will collaborate with Caltech, IAS, MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, University of Chicago, and University of Michigan, leveraging complementary strengths and shared research fellowship programs to accelerate discovery through collaboration.
