After the Oct. 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel, Schechter began notifying Chapman Dean of Students Jerry Price and then-President Daniele Struppa that Jewish students were being threatened and harassed, according to the lawsuit."
Eli Schechter and Talya Malka filed a federal lawsuit Oct. 28 accusing Chapman University of permitting antisemitic bullying by pro-Palestinian activists and failing to discipline those involved. The plaintiffs allege activists uprooted Israeli flags from a memorial, hung a large Palestinian flag over the memorial, shouted profanity at Jewish students, flashed a Nazi salute and called for Jews to be lynched. Schechter reported threats and harassment to Dean Jerry Price and then-president Daniele Struppa after the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack. The suit is backed by the National Jewish Advocacy Center; Chapman said it supports Jewish students and is reviewing the filing.
