Kotlikoff to December grads: 'Meet the future with confidence' | Cornell Chronicle
""This year, on Dec. 21, there were "more than 500 terrific reasons," said President Michael I. Kotlikoff, addressing December graduates and more than 2,000 friends and family members gathered for the 23rd December Recognition Ceremony in Barton Hall. "I'm so pleased to be here with all of you, celebrating your achievements and marking this milestone in your lives: your transition from Cornell students to Cornell alumni.""
""There are no shortcuts to a capable intellect," Kotlikoff said. "A Cornell education is rigorous, and it is demanding, for exactly that reason. Because it is designed to prepare you, not only for your careers, but for your lives." The graduates, who described the day as surreal, liberating and bittersweet, said it was their Cornell communities that helped them thrive through the demands."
Visitors flocked to the Ithaca campus on Dec. 21 despite snow and wind, as more than 500 graduates participated in the 23rd December Recognition Ceremony in Barton Hall with over 2,000 guests. President Michael I. Kotlikoff celebrated graduates and emphasized that a rigorous Cornell education prepares students for careers and life. Graduates described the day as surreal, liberating, and bittersweet and credited Cornell communities, friendships, and hard-working peers for helping them meet academic demands. Several graduates noted plans to pursue master's degrees at Cornell and expressed gratitude for the support that enabled their success.
