"So it still exists. DEI and student organizations and all of that. Like it is real. It still exists. We are still doing DEI work. In the other secret recording, Lockwood said, Someone's not going to have DEI in their job description because of the State House."
"I want to be clear-this review was not about personal viewpoints or differing opinions. This is about compliance with the law. The Board of Regents and its institutions will comply with the law. Period. As these are personnel matters, we cannot and will not share specifics beyond what we say here today."
The University of Iowa Board of Regents authorized disciplinary action against one of two employees placed on paid administrative leave following undercover videos released by Fox News in July. The videos showed UI Leadership and Student Organization Development Assistant Andrea Tinoco and Memorial Union Senior Associate Director Cory Lockwood discussing how the university continued DEI work despite state restrictions. Tinoco stated DEI initiatives still existed within student organizations, while Lockwood referenced removing DEI from job descriptions due to state legislation. An investigation by conservative law firm Consovoy McCarthy and the Iowa attorney general's office recommended disciplining one employee. University President Robert Cramer emphasized the review focused on legal compliance rather than personal viewpoints.
