Queen's University Belfast and DkIT will form a strategic partnership establishing DkIT as a University College of Queen's while retaining financial, staffing and governance autonomy under a collegiate model. The Governing Body of DkIT and the Senate of Queen's have approved the development, with a formal agreement expected in December and full operation aimed for the 2026 academic year. The development resolves the long-running question of DkIT becoming a Technological University. DkIT will continue serving the technological sector in Ireland, including delivering apprenticeships. Minister James Lawless described the partnership as a landmark initiative that builds on Shared Island North-South collaboration and will strengthen higher education across the island. The Department will work closely with DkIT during implementation.
