Demond Williams Jr. calls a reverse, decides to remain at Washington rather than transfer
"After thoughtful reflection with my family, I am excited to announce that I will continue my football journey at the University of Washington,"
"I am fully committed and focused on contributing to what we are building."
"The past 48 hours have underscored just how complex and challenging the current college athletics environment has become,"
"What has transpired has been difficult for all parties involved and is emblematic of many of the current issues in college sports."
Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. reversed his transfer decision and will remain at the University of Washington for 2026 after signing an estimated $4.5 million name, image and likeness contract. He announced renewed commitment to the program after consultation with family and advisers. Washington threatened legal action to enforce the NIL agreement, and the Big Ten supported the university's stance. Williams' agent Doug Hendrickson of Wasserman Football dropped him, citing "philosophical differences." Williams subsequently hired lawyer Darren Heitner, and Washington athletic director Pat Chun commented on the complexity of the current college athletics environment.
