Cornell opens state's first indoor adaptive challenge course | Cornell Chronicle
"Noyes has long served as a hub for students and we're excited to have something new and different,"
"Noyes is a fantastic and welcoming place where students can come together and congregate, and I know the addition of this course will provide more opportunities for students to grow and challenge themselves."
"Every element is built so that someone could be in one of these harnesses and get elevated up to as high as they feel comfortable going,"
A new indoor adaptive challenge course opened at the Noyes Community Recreation Center on Feb. 10, replacing the decommissioned indoor course in Barton Hall. The facility is the first of its kind in New York and includes equipment designed for people with limited mobility, including wheelchair users. Funding came from a Noyes family endowment and a New York state grant through the Enhancing Supports and Services for Students With Disabilities for Postsecondary Success program. Student Disability Services, Cornell Outdoor Education and other campus units purchased specialized harnesses that permit seated support while navigating course elements. The Noyes course includes four team-based elements. The Hoffman Challenge Course remains Cornell Outdoor Education’s outdoor site, open March through mid-November.
