"Strong oversight and standards protect academic integrity and restore public trust, guaranteeing that a degree from Texas A&M means something to our students and the people who will hire them. That has been our focus through this process and will remain our focus as we move forward."
"They have reduced this marketplace of ideas to now emphasizing or promoting a certain view when it comes to race, gender, and sexuality. And that view is quite literally erasing the experiences of people of color, the LGBTQ+ community,"
Texas A&M University is ending its women's and gender studies program, revising hundreds of course syllabuses, and canceling six classes under a new policy that limits how professors may discuss certain race and gender topics. The changes followed a viral classroom confrontation and an extensive review of 5,400 courses after system regents approved the policy. University officials said the six canceled courses represent 0.11% of this semester's offerings and argued the policy restores academic integrity and protects degree value. Hundreds of faculty and students protested, saying the policy infringes on academic and student freedom and erases marginalized experiences.
