Jim Clements is retiring at the end of the month after 12 years as Clemson University president, citing health and family reasons. Clements joined Clemson in 2013 after nearly five years as president of West Virginia University and cited a record number of applications and attainment of Research-1 status among accomplishments. Board of Trustees chair Kim Wilkerson credited record enrollment and graduation rates, expanded research initiatives and historic philanthropic support. Recent controversies include firings over allegedly inappropriate remarks about Charlie Kirk's death and the shutdown of faculty and staff affinity groups. An emergency board meeting is expected to name an interim president on Wednesday.
