
LGBTQ+ organizations in Wisconsin are urging University of Wisconsin Hospital and Children’s Wisconsin to resume gender-affirming care for youth. More than 65 organizations published an open letter arguing that providers are protected by a federal court ruling blocking the Trump administration’s policy. The letter says gender-affirming care helps transgender young people become healthy adults and compassionate leaders. Last December, the administration ordered hospitals to stop providing gender-affirming care for youth or risk losing federal funds tied to programs such as Medicaid. A federal judge struck down the policy last month, but the hospitals have not clearly committed to restarting services. UW Health stated it does not plan to resume care yet due to unresolved federal risks.
