Why UHS Is Acquiring Talkspace for $835M - MedCity News
"Joining forces will help "establish a truly national, end-to-end platform for behavioral health that seamlessly integrates virtual and in-person care," said Marc D. Miller, president and CEO of UHS. Talkspace will become a subsidiary of the UHS Behavioral Health Division, and UHS will bring on Talkspace's network of 6,000 therapists."
""Talkspace's virtual platform perfectly complements the high-quality care already provided at our facilities," Miller said. "This acquisition enables UHS to accelerate our outpatient and telehealth efforts, ensuring smoother transitions across care settings and broadening access to treatment for patients everywhere.""
"Talkspace will also be able to refer patients who are in need of more intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization or inpatient care to UHS' facilities, creating a comprehensive care continuum that addresses the full spectrum of behavioral health needs."
Universal Health Services (UHS), a major for-profit health system with 29 inpatient acute care facilities and 346 behavioral health facilities, is acquiring Talkspace, a virtual behavioral health platform with approximately 6,000 mental health professionals. Talkspace offers therapy, psychiatry, and medication management through video, audio, chat, and asynchronous messaging to employers and health plans. The acquisition creates a comprehensive national behavioral health platform integrating virtual and in-person care. UHS gains access to Talkspace's therapist network and expands reach to patients preferring virtual care, particularly younger populations. Talkspace gains the ability to refer patients requiring intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, or inpatient services to UHS facilities, creating seamless care transitions across treatment settings.
