A recent survey of almost 9,000 NHS staff, conducted by the union Unison, has revealed alarming conditions within NHS hospitals, highlighting issues like pest infestations, crumbling infrastructure, and safety concerns. Approximately 16% of respondents reported seeing vermin such as rats and cockroaches, while over half noted significant leaks and inadequate facilities. With reports of broken lifts, toilets, and even collapsing ceilings, the survey raises critical concerns about the safety of both patients and healthcare workers within these facilities.
The poll of almost 9,000 members found the workplaces are crawling with rats, cockroaches, silverfish and other pests.
17 per cent of staff do not think their building is safe, while 52 per cent reported seeing buckets catching leaking water.
