In Irish hospitals, 8,199 patients were recorded waiting for a bed, with 5,371 on trolleys. This is a slight decrease from April's 8,659. INMO's Phil Ní Sheaghdha criticized the ongoing overcrowding, mainly in the Midwest and West, stressing that it compromises both patient care and the wellbeing of nursing staff. The high number of patients waiting on inappropriate spaces leads to increased assaults and burnout among healthcare workers. University Hospital Limerick reported the highest number of trolley waits, emphasizing the urgent need for improved capacity and staffing in hospitals.
The number of people on trolleys is still much too high, and there are near daily instances of over 200 people being treated on trolleys.
We are yet again seeing unacceptable levels of overcrowding in the Midwest and West, where there is little to no capacity release valves to help ease overcrowding.
