Gurwin Assisted Living in Commack hosted a Coney Island Beach Day to evoke memories of summers on the Brooklyn boardwalk. The celebration featured Luna Park–style carnival games including horse-racing, Skee-ball, ring toss and basketball, plus appearances by boardwalk characters such as a mermaid, Strong Man, fortune teller, clowns and a life-sized hot dog. Vintage Coney Island film footage played to enhance ambiance. Residents enjoyed classic boardwalk fare including fried Oreos, pretzels, churros, sliders, Italian ices and hot dogs with mustard and sauerkraut. The event aimed to bring smiles and rekindle favorite past experiences among residents.
Residents at Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner Residences kicked off the celebration early with a fun-filled, memory-laden "Coney Island Beach Day," which the facility called a "nostalgic tribute to summers spent along the iconic Brooklyn boardwalk." The event transported residents back to the golden days of youth, when "Coney Island was the place to be on a summer day" - offering the thrills of roller coasters, the joy of boardwalk games, and the unmistakable taste of a hot dog enjoyed in the salty air.
