UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center experienced turmoil when federal immigration agents brought a woman in their custody for medical treatment. Although hospital officials confirmed no raids occurred, the presence of agents stirred anger among staff who were disturbed by their entry into patient care areas. Witnesses described an atmosphere of uncertainty as doctors and nurses felt compromised while providing care. The woman was discharged after treatment but returned to federal custody. Concerns regarding law enforcement's role in healthcare settings were raised by medical professionals present during the incident.
Agents from Customs and Border Protection detained two Iranian nationals earlier in the day during enforcement efforts in Los Angeles. The agency said the Iranian nationals were unlawfully in the United States and were considered subjects of national security interest.
The union representative said six federal immigration agents entered the emergency room lobby and at least one went inside the woman's hospital room. The agent reportedly held onto the patient's bed and refused to let go, a nurse told the representative.
