TikTok video showing Santa Barbara clinic staff mocking patients stirs anger
"Are patients allowed to leave you guys gifts?"
"Make sure you leave your healthcare workers sweet gifts like these!"
"This unacceptable behavior is an outright violation of our policies, shows a lack of respect for our patients and will not be tolerated,"
"Within 24 hours of becoming aware of the posts, we placed the employees on administrative leave, and within another 24 hours, we terminated those involved,"
A video posted to TikTok showed multiple healthcare workers at Sansum Clinic apparently mocking what appeared to be patients' bodily fluids on exam tables with captions asking viewers to 'Guess the substance' and suggesting patients leave such 'gifts.' The original poster was a former employee, and several other participants were employed by the Sacramento-based Sutter Health system. Sutter Health described the conduct as a policy violation and disrespectful to patients and said involved staff were placed on administrative leave within 24 hours of notification and terminated within another 24 hours. The video spread across social platforms, prompted public outrage, and was deleted and later reposted.
