Norah Casey: 'Three years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes - it changed everything'
"When Norah Casey was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in the spring of 2022, it was almost a relief. She had been ill since the start of that year, initially with a mild dose of Covid-19, which she compares now to "a bad cold." Four weeks later she became very sick. "I couldn't walk, I was feeling faint, I was nauseous, I got a terrible headache," she recalls."
"When she went to her GP, it transpired her blood pressure was "through the roof, way up at 250, critical stroke territory" and Norah ended up in hospital."
Norah Casey received a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis in spring 2022 after months of illness beginning with a mild Covid-19 infection. Her symptoms escalated four weeks later to extreme weakness, fainting, nausea and a severe headache that left her unable to walk. A GP assessment found dangerously high blood pressure around 250, prompting hospitalisation. The diagnosis provided relief by explaining the acute symptoms. Managing Type 1 diabetes required adjustments to work patterns and everyday life, and ongoing health monitoring to reduce the risk of further acute events.
