My diabetes diagnosis felt like a death sentence at first, but there's a silver lining - I now put myself first

Sarah Gleeson, from Cork, was shocked when she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her first pregnancy seven years ago. 'I've always been health conscious, and we'd been trying to get pregnant for about 10 months, so I was very conscious of my diet,' she says.
Gleeson, now 39 and a mother of two, was upset by the news. 'The only advice I was given was stop drinking fizzy drinks,' she says. 'I probably cried for about a week because I very much felt like it was something I had done to my baby and to myself.'
