Frank Feighan expressed serious concerns regarding the issuance of digital sick certs without proper doctor-patient consultations, which he believes jeopardize health standards and patient safety. These certifications, advertised online for €25 to €45, do not meet the standards required by the Department of Social Protection for social welfare. Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill indicated the need for the Medical Council to ensure higher standards are maintained and recognized the impact on employers, especially small businesses. Feighan hopes for action from relevant authorities following discussions with the Medical Council.
"When it comes to someone's health, it is vital that a consultation takes place between a doctor and patient."
