Francie Gorman, president of the IFA, discovered he had a potentially life-threatening pancreatic tumor during a routine health check for low haemoglobin. The unexpected diagnosis led to surgery, where doctors removed over half of his pancreas. Following the successful operation, Mr. Gorman was given the all-clear and expressed gratitude for the timely medical intervention that likely saved his life. He emphasizes the importance of regular medical check-ups, encouraging others to take a proactive approach to their health in order to catch similar issues early.
The doctors found a tumour on my pancreas completely by chance. I was actually in the doctors because I had low haemoglobin but they ended up finding this tumour.
During the surgery, they took more than half of my pancreas but they managed to leave my spleen. All the staff in the hospital looked after me so well.
I was told that there was no doubt that in a couple of years time, the tumour would have 1000pc turned cancerous and at that stage I would have been in serious bother.
It really shows the importance of going to the doctor regularly as we don't know what is going on inside our bodies.
